EMDR stands for Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a treatment modality discovered by Francine Shapiro.
There are many steps to EMDR, but first we would talk about what brings you into therapy, then some of your history. After that, EMDR uses eye movements (or other stimulation if needed) to help the brain re-process some memories.
It is believed that the eye movements (or other stimulation) helps activate the processing areas in our brain which helps us re-process memories in a healthy manner.
